Book Description

When Lady Jemima Fitzwater is dismissed from Princess Charlotte’s household, she discovers that her invalid mother at Cavendish Square has been running through money like water. Jemima tries to fend off the mounting debts, but an unfortunate indiscretion from her past threatens to destroy both her reputation and her resolve. The only person who might be able to help is her man of business, Mr. Talbot, but is telling him her secret too high a price to pay?

Graham Talbot aspires to start his own practice as solicitor to the rich and famous. But he soon discovers that Lady Jemima Fitzwater is far from rich and on the brink of infamy instead. As he searches for solutions to her predicament, he finds himself drawn to her kindness and constancy. But when one careless action threatens his career, he must choose whether it is more important to save his own neck, or to risk it all for the sake of Lady Jemima’s happiness.

My Review

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love reading historical fiction, so I decided to take a chance on this book, and I was not disappointed. The beginning was a bit slow as it set up the story, but it quickly picked up pace once Lady Jemima Fitzwater’s adventures began. Set in the 1800s, when women had little say in society, the tension in the story kept me engaged, and I found it impossible to put down as I eagerly wanted to know what would happen next.

Additionally, I enjoyed reading the historical notes about some of the characters, which helped to enrich the story and the characters in the story. I recommend this one and can’t wait to read more from this series.
